Introducing Karimikui: A Taste of Kenya's Coffee Excellence
We're excited to bring you a vibrant coffee from Kenya's Central Province. This coffee is produced by smallholder farmers who supply the Karimikui factory, established in 1997, nestled on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya. The region's rich red volcanic soil and high altitudes (up to 1,800 meters) contribute to the coffee's distinctive character.
Expertly Washed Process
Karimikui undergoes a meticulous washed process, where beans are pulped, fermented for 8 hours, and then dried on raised beds for 7-15 days. Continuous hand-turning during drying ensures an even, clean, and vibrant coffee. Flavor Profile
At Palace Coffee, we've discovered delightful notes of nectarine, mango, and a hint of Thai spice in Karimikui. These flavors create a refreshing and lively cup that is sure to captivate coffee lovers.
Sustainability and Community
Farmers in Kirinyaga are committed to sustainable practices. The Karimikui factory uses water from the Nyamindi River and implements soak pits to protect the environment. In addition to coffee, farmers grow bananas, corn, and intercrop with Grevillea and macadamia trees for shade.
Rich Tradition and Natural Beauty
Home to the Kikuyu people, Kirinyaga's coffee farms are surrounded by forests and the breathtaking Mount Kenya. The glacier-fed rivers provide ideal conditions for growing exceptional coffee, reflecting the region's deep cultural heritage.
