YirgZ: A Palace Classic Returns for Its 9th Year
We’re proud to bring back YirgZ, one of our most beloved coffees, for the 9th year in a row. Grown in the legendary Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia, this washed coffee is known for its bright, clean, and complex flavor profile. This year's cup is as elegant as ever, with tasting notes of red plum, agave, and black tea.
What Makes YirgZ Special?
The "Z" in YirgZ stands for "zero defects," a promise that each lot undergoes intense sorting for quality and consistency. After traditional washing and fermentation, the coffee is meticulously sorted — first by machine, then by hand — ensuring only the highest quality beans make it to your cup. Workers who perform this careful sorting process are paid three times the normal wage, supporting their families and local communities.
Where It Comes From
This coffee hails from the **Kochere district** of Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia, grown at **1800- 2000 meters above sea level**. Farmers bring freshly picked, ripe cherries to the local washing station, where the coffee undergoes fermentation, washing, and drying on raised African beds for 10-12 days. The result is a coffee with classic Yirgacheffe characteristics of floral aromatics, a tea-like body, and a crisp, sweet finish.
Why We Love It
YirgZ has become a staple at Palace for good reason. It’s a crowd-pleaser with its delicate balance of sweetness, brightness, and depth. This year’s release is no different, offering a clean, sweet, and refreshing experience. Whether you’re a long-time fan or trying it for the first time, YirgZ is a must-sip coffee that continues to stand out year after year.
